13/7/13 – Bzzzzzz

We went on a walk by the river this afternoon and encountered so many incredible insects: neon yellow butterflies, a flirtatious yet reluctant to be photographed black and white butterfly, what appeared to be giant ladybirds and of course these gorgeous dragonflies. The word for dragonfly in Spanish is one of my favourites – ‘libélula’. This green one was accompanied by a fluorescent blue friend, who wasn’t as keen on having his photo taken. 😦

  1. Wow, that’s an amazing photo! I didn’t know the Spanish word for dragonfly; it’s lovely. One of my favourite Spanish words is ‘cucaracha’. I don’t like the animal to which it refers but I like the sound of the word. And since we seem to be going with a beetle/insect theme, ‘mariposa’ is a pretty word too. 🙂

    • Thank you! I love the word ‘cucaracha’ too, although I can’t stand the animal! Another one of my favourites is ‘babosa’ – slug, which I think must come from the verb ‘babear’, to drool! Such a pretty word for such a gross animal!
